A repair estimate can help you compare keeping a faulty car with selling it, but only if you understand what is included. An estimate for one diagnosed fault may not cover every issue affecting the vehicle. Ask the repairer to explain the scope before using its total in your decision.

Separate diagnosis from proposed work

Identify which fault has been confirmed and which items need further investigation. If the workshop proposes dismantling before a final quote, record that uncertainty. Do not present an initial estimate to a buyer as proof that every problem is known.

Check whether parts, labour and relevant additional work are included. Ask about items left outside the estimate and whether the figure changes if other damage is found. Use the repairer’s answers rather than assuming a generic allowance will cover everything.

Define your intended outcome

Repairing for continued use and repairing purely to sell are different plans. If you want to keep the car, ask what the proposed work is expected to address and what condition checks remain. If you intend to sell, compare the repair route with an actual as-described offer.

An advertised price for a fully working car is not a guaranteed post-repair sale amount. It should not be treated as money already available to pay for the repair.

Give the buyer an accurate summary

Tell the buyer the workshop’s findings, the vehicle’s current condition and whether any work has started. Describe removed components separately. Redact unrelated personal information before sharing relevant documents through the requested process.

Ask whether the offer is based on the car in its present state and what inspection conditions apply. That helps avoid comparing an undiagnosed-car offer with a quote assuming a completed repair.

Confirm release if the car stays at the workshop

Check the repairer’s release arrangements, charges and opening hours before booking collection. A vehicle buyer’s offer does not automatically resolve a separate workshop account.

Contact SA Wrecker through cash for broken cars for a faulty vehicle enquiry. Broader condition issues can be discussed through cash for damaged cars. If transport is needed, our damaged car removal service can assess collection from the actual location.
