An accident car in a storage yard needs more than an address for collection. The facility must be able to release it to the agreed operator, and the buyer needs to understand its condition. Confirm those arrangements before a truck is booked.
Establish the release process
Ask the yard who can authorise release and what documentation or reference it requires. Confirm charges and any time restrictions directly with the facility. Do not assume that an accepted vehicle offer settles an unrelated recovery or storage account.
If an insurer or another party controls the vehicle’s release, resolve that with them first. Being the person who made the original recovery call does not necessarily mean you can arrange a sale at any time.
Get a current condition description
Ask where the vehicle sits and whether its state has changed since recovery. Report missing wheels, loose components and known rolling or steering problems to the buyer. Recent photographs may help if the yard can provide them through its usual process.
Do not visit restricted parts of a facility or handle the damaged vehicle to gather information. Let the yard and collection operator explain suitable access.
Align the booking contacts
Record the facility address, gate or reception entrance, release contact and operating hours. Give the buyer the relevant details through the booking process. Ask whether you need to attend and what arrangements apply to an authorised representative.
The yard’s opening hours may differ from the buyer’s collection availability. A confirmed pickup window must fit both businesses.
Check the complete package
Identify included keys, documents and loose parts. Ask the facility whether those are stored with the car or separately. Confirm with the buyer which components it will accept and how they will accompany collection.
Update all contacts if the release is delayed or the vehicle moves. A driver should not arrive relying on a clearance that is still pending.
Discuss the vehicle with SA Wrecker’s accident car buyers. Our accident car removal, salvage car removal and wrecked car removal pages provide related enquiry routes once its condition and release arrangements are clear.
