Diagnostic work can leave a vehicle partly dismantled even when you decide not to proceed with repairs. A buyer needs to know its current state, not just the fault that brought it to the workshop. Removed parts also need a clear inclusion and collection plan.

Ask for a present-state description

Have the repairer explain what was removed, what remains fitted and whether anything was damaged during the original failure. Do not assume that all components are in the car because they belonged to it when it arrived.

Identify whether loose parts are complete assemblies or partly dismantled pieces. If their condition has not been tested, label it unknown. Avoid claiming a component is reusable merely because it is present.

Make a four-part inventory

Organise the list as fitted, removed and included, missing, and retained. Pair photographs with labels where the buyer requests them. Keep unrelated spare parts out of the package unless both sides agree they are included.

Ask the buyer which loose components it is prepared to take. A vehicle collection does not necessarily include transporting every container of workshop material.

Recheck loading requirements

Tell the buyer if dismantling has affected wheels, suspension, steering or the way the car is supported. Ask the operator to assess a suitable collection method. Do not improvise temporary supports or refit unfamiliar parts just to make the job seem simpler.

The workshop may need to coordinate its own staff or equipment for release. Confirm who handles those arrangements and whether the buyer needs additional information before accepting the booking.

Keep the quote current

If you requested an offer before diagnosis, update it with the new inventory and condition. An old quote may have assumed a more complete vehicle. Agree on any revised terms before the driver arrives.

Record the included components on the sale confirmation and keep the repairer’s release details alongside it. This gives both businesses a clear description of the vehicle package.

SA Wrecker can assess an enquiry through cash for broken cars or cash for damaged cars. For a partly dismantled vehicle, discuss damaged car removal with the current inventory and the workshop’s access arrangements.
