A first call about a faulty vehicle is easier when you have a short worksheet beside you. It should help the buyer understand the actual car and help you understand what is being offered. You do not need a complete mechanical diagnosis to begin, but you should identify what remains unknown.
Write down the vehicle facts
Record make, model, year and known kilometres, with unavailable details labelled clearly. Add keys, registration status and current location. If the vehicle is at a workshop, include its release contact and opening hours.
Describe the car as it currently stands. A memory of how it ran before a failure or a photograph taken before dismantling may need a clear explanation.
Summarise the condition
Create separate entries for diagnosed faults, owner observations and unknowns. Add body damage, missing components and loose parts that are included. Keep proposed repairs separate from work already completed.
Do not use a fault code alone as a definitive diagnosis. State what the workshop actually concluded and whether further investigation was recommended.
Prepare your buyer questions
Ask whether the offer is based on the disclosed condition, what inspection remains and which changes could affect the amount. Clarify included parts and payment arrangements. Ask whether collection is included for the location and access described.
Explain any rolling, steering or wheel restrictions you know about. Let the operator assess suitable loading rather than assuming every non-running car can be collected in the same way.
Finish with a written confirmation
Record the agreed next step: more photographs, an inspection or a confirmed pickup window. Confirm material terms before accepting. Keep the worksheet updated if the car moves or its condition changes.
This worksheet can support a cash for broken cars enquiry with SA Wrecker. For a vehicle with broader damage, contact our damaged car buying service. If it cannot be transported by the owner, discuss damaged car removal using the same condition and access information.
