The phrase “selling the car” can hide several assumptions. You may intend to keep a dash camera, while the buyer assumes all visible accessories are included. A simple inclusion list helps avoid a disagreement at handover and gives the buyer a consistent vehicle package to assess.
Separate belongings from vehicle equipment
Personal possessions should be removed before pickup. Check the glovebox, console, boot and storage pockets for paperwork, glasses, chargers and house keys. Child seats and personal tools should also be considered explicitly rather than left in the car by accident.
Vehicle equipment needs a separate conversation. List keys, spare wheels, service books, roof racks, audio upgrades and any loose components you intend to include. Do not assume a spare set of wheels stored elsewhere is part of a quote based only on photographs.
Say what you want to retain
Before accepting, identify anything you plan to remove. Ask whether the offer was based on that equipment staying fitted. Removing an included item after an offer is agreed changes what the buyer receives.
Where removal involves wiring, structural attachments or heavy equipment, discuss a suitable professional process. Do not dismantle items simply to improve a sale figure without considering the cost, vehicle condition and collection implications.
Keep the inventory easy to check
Use three columns on paper: item, included or retained, and location. For example, “second key—included—in envelope with service book” is clearer than “keys somewhere at home”. Photograph included loose parts if the buyer requests them.
If an item goes missing or your plans change, update the buyer before the collection day. A current inventory is more useful than an old list that no longer matches the vehicle.
Confirm the same package with each buyer
Use the same inclusion list when comparing cash for cars offers and a used car sale. It helps you sell a car for cash without comparing different packages.
For an unwanted car, disclose missing parts as well as added accessories. If it is unregistered, explain its current mobility and agree on collection alongside the inventory.
